Cascading targets and outcomes are distributed throughout the organization from finance to marketing and HR etc. Everyone should have their key metrics. Ensuring commitment means doing the hard work of removing all resistance, confusion and barriers. Everyone needs to be on board. It is critical that all stakeholders understand the intrinsic rewards of the endeavour as well as the extrinsic. Confirming alignment means periodically and selectively assessing the degree of alignment that exists across the organization to the strategic plan. Managing execution is the difficult work of doing what was planned and managing outcomes. Plans are only good intentions unless they immediately translate into hard work. Unless commitment is made, there are only promises and hopes: but no strategy.
